Way ahead of its time!

Before you pop in your PS4 game or Blu-Ray Disc, you might wanna get a piece of the action with Leonard Nimoy as he pimps out a Magnavox VH-8000 Videodisc Player back in 1978.  That’s a whopping 36 years ago!!!  The technology was a precursor to the digital age that led to CDs, Laser Disks, DVDs, and Blu-Rays.  For some reason it was still overshadowed by the VHS tape and bombed.  I guess people in the eighties preferred cubed objects, but some of its fails were that it didn’t have a record feature, poor distribution of titles, and the resolution wasn’t much better than video.  Hey, at least it could withstand pouring water over it.  But it certainly deserves an honorable place in the tech hall of fame.  It was a taste of the future, so what better than to have a Star Trek icon to endorse the freakin’ thing!

I’m really feeling Mr. Nimoy’s minimalistic white pants and sweater with the Marlboro mustache.  Looks like he just came in from a walk on the beach with William Shatner…
