A studio in a box these days isn’t all that uncommon. But a homage to a beatmaker’s passion in a light gray box, modeled as a tribute to the once dominating Akai MPC-2000.
The Akai Professional MPC One Retro Edition ($899) is a standalone production tool with a full color touch screen, an SD card slot, and a USB input for a flash drive. I think a direct phono input for a turntable would have made it a masterpiece, but I can’t get too hopeful for perfection these days.
