80’s Stars You Won’t Recognize Today !
80s stars then and now
Siouxsie Sioux? Did you forget? She looks better at 57 then all of them combined…
just added – thanks
Romeo Void-Deborah Iyall?
she is THERE
That’s because the rest of them combined are 1807 years old. Lesson here is let yourself age. Being a ripened artist is itself absolutely and genuinely cool. There is nothing hip about being a surgically enhanced senior, no matter how beautiful and publicly beloved you once were.
Hello! Where the **** is Siouxsie? A gob in your general direction sir!

I knew I’d miss one or two…
I just added her in all her spangled glory !
Love to see Adam Ant on this wall. Just saw him in Chicago…tremendous!
Will add Adam tonight ! Thanks
Grab a pic of Adam from his facebook page, this shot is not a good representation of how well he’s aging. And he’s touring.
rectified the Adam Ant pic – more better rep
-thanks !
Debbie Harry aka Blondie? Blondie was the band, not the lead singer’s stage name!
Yeah but we all called her Blondie, and there will never be a band named Blondie without a blondie
No. “We” did not call her Blondie, we called “her” Debbi Harry even back in the 70’s during Plastic Letters and Parallel Lines. The band was Blondie.
OK – I will fix it -thanks
You sure that’s Big Country? Looks more like The Alarm…
it is def Big Country
Mike Peters, the lead singer from The Alarm, joined Big Country as a vocalist a few years back. So yah, not The Alarm.
fixed it ! Mike Peters – thnaks
He has since been fired by Big Country. I believe he is soloing this summer in the UK.
Um, that’s JOHN Taylor, of Duran Duran, not Andy.
oops – still a Taylor !
Malcolm Mclaren died back in 2010.
my bad- posthumous honor for crossing over to hip-hop
don’t forget Gary Numan! still rocking out, last album was in the UK top 20!

Were you a dj back then? You’ve named everyone I listened to from those years. Great list, Glenn.
Yes, I was and still am! Still have all my vinyl !
Great pics you added. Many thanks. I do think you could get some better, more up-to-date pics of people like Adam Ant, who, when clean shaven, looks quite young. There are some new pics of Duran Duran men that show their age and good looks still. (Please add pics of Nick Rhodes and Roger Taylor.) Also, would love to see pics of The Chameleons, Love and Rockets, Jamie West-Oram (the Fixx), The Jazz Butcher, Gene Loves Jezebel (Jay and Michael Aston and the rest), The Cult (Ian Astbury and BIlly Duffy), King (Paul King and his band), Stray Cats / Brian Setzer, and the rest of the Banshees (you already have Siouxsie).
added a duran duran group shot -thanks
Glad you added a Duran Duran Group shot–the solo shot of Simon is one of the Worse pics Ever of him. There are Many others Much Better and current. They look Great, as long as they aren’t having a “Bad Hair Day” lol ❤ Great Job on here, Man!!!

Agree w/ Glenn M above. Big ones are in CAPS. Cabaret Voltaire, ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN, Nina Hagen, Nene Lovich, MEN AT WORK, MODERN ENGLISH, THE POLICE, THE PRETENDERS, PSYCHEDELIC FURS, Romeo Void, Screaming Blue Messiahs, Soft Cell, the Stranglers, WALL OF VODOO, X. (Please no Katrina & the Waves.)
I would also add: Big Audio Dynamite, David Bowie, Jane Siberry, Midnight Oil, Pat Benatar, PIL (Public Image Ltd.), R.E.M., Suzanne Vega, Ministry (were New Wave at 1st, became Industrial). If you allow Industrial, which started in the 80s, I’d suggest Front 242.
Thanks! Great page + as a former DJ, am interested in your DJ’ing comments.
Cheers.
thanks so much ; 0
I will add Ministry and PIL (Johnny Rotten) – thanks !
Page took so long to reload (my fault, not yours– poor WiFi connection), I added to my list. You can delete my 1st comment if you like. Thanks again!

(I see some of these bands are represented by the front man. :))
If you allow Industrial, which started in the 80s, I’d suggest Front 242.
Thanks! Great page + as a former DJ, am interested in your DJ’ing comments.
Cheers.
Great list! Didn’t see it before I posted Nina Hagen.
added – thanks !
That is some damn list, Glenn M! Archaeocj’s good too… Robert Palmer unfortunately no longer with us. A couple other ideas: Fine Young Cannibals, Icehouse. *Please* Joe Jackson!

Paul Weller added
I checked all the comments… no one was a Japan fan?
added a cool pic of David -thanks!
Dead Can Dance
My favorite group of all time ! More New Age though…
Ugh! Gracefully? Help!!!! Lol! OMG! I think the pics were taken a little tooo close up, hey? Ahh well, but dang the music is timeless, I gotta concede that much! I still listen to it. I was accused of being stuck in the 80’s by my daughters…I’m guilty! BananaRama looks like they are indeed aging gracefully, though. Chrissie Hinds was probably the scariest, for me, I guess. Wow. Hard to believe…so much time has gone by…
I’m sure it’s the makeup – she is still amazing
I know I love her! How did she ever end up in New Wave?Lol!
I think Billy Idol is hotter now than he was back in his hey day….
the Crest toothpaste is still in his hair !
How about Midge ure of Ultravox
added-thanks!
Amazing there was not a single black artist in the 80s. Do you realize that your list excludes them? or is it just unconscious?
I can recall the lead from Fine Young Cannibals, the two other members of Fun Boy Three, I did include 3 of the 4 members of Culture Club, I thought Grace Jones was more of a disco pop diva. Then there was Living Color, but they were a rock band. If there were any people of color that I missed as NEW WAVE artists please let me know. I will be happy to add them! And by the way, if you mean black by color, there are many colors and not just one. Thanks
Barry Adamson from Magazine. Awesome bassist, and Magazine got back together to do some shows only a few years back.
Added Ranking Roger of General Public
Grace Jones was definitely a well known artist in the 80s.
I will add Grace Jones -thanks
I hate to point this out, but not all of them are aging with what you might call… grace.
define grace…
Well, a good many of them look, well, not so good. But, I suppose you’ve got a point there.
How about Gene Loves Jezebel, Railway Children and B-Movie?
Added Steve Hovington of B-Movie
I’m not quite sure why, but I like the photo of Martin Fry. Nice, relaxed, friendly smile. Maybe it’s because I remember the lip curl from the music videos.
In general, though, I have to admit that I don’t know about half of the people here.
I always like the song Be Near Me more than The look of love !
Great blog, man! I just shared it on my FB page. Thanks for putting this together!
; )
How about Flesh For Lulu? Nick Marsh and Rocco Barker I believe are still doing dates and touring.. Jesus and Mary Chain? Gene Loves Jezebel?
Added Jim and William Reid- Thanks ! !
Loved Gene Loves Jezebel. They played locally here about 5yrs. ago. Wished I had seen them.
added more
Madness? Haircut 100? Could you add those?
added – thanks!
Sting?
added – thanks
Er… The Cars? gotta be done. Plus Martha Davis from the Motels. she looks better than ever!
added – thanks
It’s awesome!!
Thanks for the update of my Gods of the 80’s
But
Where is U2 ??????
Did u leave them out because they r alive and well and still kicking ass in 2013?
In my mind they were the definitive band of the 80’s
I know I’m missing U2 and the Police. Not much of a surprise, but I guess I’ll have to
Saw U2 three times in the 80s got the Edge’s autograph in 1984 at the War tour in Atlanta,Ga.
added – thanks
Love to see all my peers we are all growing old as best we can….. I never thought we would get old….never!
LOL nice job….. Forgot Bowie
Bowie added – thanks
Boy George is looking good these days. How can there be a list without him?

How about Wire Train, Icicle Works, The Housemartins, The Lotus Eaters, Wild Swans, the Pale Fountains, The Waterboys, The The, Violent Femmes, Midnight Oil, the Bolshoi, Camouflage, Grace Pool, Prefab Sprout, Real Life, etc. Oh, boy. What about The Communards?
yes!!!! added !
Where?
I don’t see The Reverend Richard Coles
I really enjoyed looking through this list, so many memories. The 80’s was an awesome time, especially for music, I think I’m going to go through the list and write down my fave song from each artist and make up a mixed CD. 🙂
that is so cool

pop music!

Pingback: Nippertown!
thanks for the share !
Really enjoyed all the photos – lots of bands I’d forgotten about.
However as a die hard Cure fan, I was disappointed that the whole band wasn’t represented, just Robert Smith – and who is the guy buy his side? He isn’t in the band!!! Unless that’s Lol Tolhurst (perhaps?)
it was tough finding some aged photos of the cure… you might be right about that guy on the right, I will crop him out – thanks
Djrio – , Great site 😉 some more perhaps. –>
Ramones. Bjork/Sugarcubes.
TomTomClub (I suppose thats TalkingHeads minusone).
And two “Unclassifiables” ..Skinny Puppy (industrial NewWave ?) …And
Wendy-O/ThePlasmatics….(punk or Hard NewWave?) ;P) … They did have
“remixes”, those last two, but,…… I dont think they knew what genre they were themselves..lol…..;>
ramones were a bit on the punk/rock side and Bjork was 90’s
But, the Sugarcubes formed in 86 and ventured until 92.

Great call. This is the best blog. Thank you for putting so much effort into it, and keep up the great work.
updated some more pics from your requests – thanks !
No, no – Joe Jackson’s first 2 records (Look Sharp/I’m The Man) were not jazzy-rock!
He looks like an alien now – but I’ll do the add – thanks
added
WOW!!! Some of these people aged gracefully, others… not so much. Mick Jones (The Clash looks ancient). The ladies from Bananarama still look HOT!!!! Grrrr…. Pete Burns just plain looks scary!!! That’s what plastic surgery will do to your face. In fact, he should be removed from the list BECAUSE he didn’t “age gracefully”. He add massive plastic surgery. Something to consider…
minus those suction cups, I still think he(she) looks great
for an 80’s artist
How about Wendy James of Transvision Vamp, and Beki Bondage?!
Regarding Divinyls: Chrissy Amphlett died on 21 April 2013 at her home in New York City after a protracted battle with breast cancer. Please ignore this if it’s already been pointed out.
Great page tho!!
I did not know – thanks
.. Timbuk3…..?
you really need to do your homework before you post some of these pics. Chrissy from Divinyls died this past April
Hey- no need to get harsh with the “homework” comment. Sorry if it’s 99% accurate !
Yeah, you need to do a better job with volunteering to do all this work for everyone!
What a great job, I enjoyed it immensely! Thank you
Found a pic of the Stranglers (minus Hugh Cornwell) today:

http://www.gazetteseries.co.uk/resources/images/2322998.jpg?type=articleLandscape
And Hugh Cornwell:
Thanks – I will post it – thanks !
Adrian Belew. “Oh Daddy”..?
I think he (and kid) performed it live
around 5 years ago…
Huey Lewis?
pop rock massacre
What about Joan Jett and the Blackhearts? Joan still totally rocks and looks amazing!
I love ROCK N ROLL !
Ok he’s another. Terence Trent D’Arby.
If dont like him,
how about Jon&Vangelis..(The Freinds of Mr. Cairo).. ?
Still a great site Keep it up ;>)
Terence was bastard child of the nineties
-thanks
Altered Images, Blow Monkeys, Blancmage, China Crisis, Gang of Four, Guadalcanal Diary, Icehouse, Midnight Oil, Modern English, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, The Sisters of Mercy, The Plimsouls, Violent Femmes, The Water Boys, Wiretrain, NIN, The Sugarcubes, Suicidal Tendencies, The Replacements, Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians, M, The Buggles, The Vapors, The Kings, The Buzzcocks, World Party,
added some – thanks
This is a great montage but surely you could have found a more flattering photo of the amazing Cyndi Lauper!!! She’s everywhere these days and looking great! Try the Viva Mac ads, or the Tony’s Red Carpet, she looks much better than this picture.
It’s about age- so if I find a photo that alludes to it. I go with that pic. It’s a toss up.
what about Ultravox?
added
The Stranglers are a 4 piece band and have been since 2006 so no one is missing. Could you add John Foxx? He has aged most gracefully
added !
-Thanks
Amazing job you’ve done here! Thanks for the inclusion.
You have an amazing voice. Thank you !
Since she actually took notice, you may want to correct Deborah’s last name spelling under her picture. It’s Iyall, not Lyall. Cool list. Nice work.
thanks !
WHERE IS GIORGIO MORODER?
He invented Electronic Dance Music, made New Wave in the 80s with Japan, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Scarface (Soundtrack), and much more!
I love Giorgio but he is known for disco
but out of respect I will add him right next to Trevor Horn
What about CROWDED HOUSE?????
added!!!!
Wow, thanks or the memories – you did an amazing job!
thanks!
That is not a picture of The Cure. That is Robert Smith, vocalist and guitarist for the Cure with some random guy who is not a member of the band.
huh… 15 minutes of fame lol
What? No Psycotic Pineapple? They gigged alongside at least a few of these bands.
Psycotic Pineapple never made it to my crate
Re. Black Artists – Eddy Grant ( Tho’ someof his best work , he did , years earlier , with The Equals.) .
Dig Wayne – Sang Rockabilly as “Buzz” with Buzz and The Flyers , then fronted Joboxers, then went back to singing Rockabilly , as Dig Wayne.
Barry Adamson – Magazine , Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds.
Whatstheirnames from Culture Club and Big Country are Black , or Bi – Racial , right?
Unrelated – The guy on Al Jourgenson’s left in the Ministry pic was Mike Scaccia , who’d previously played in the popular Dallas Speed Metal band , Rigor Mortis. He passed away late last year.
Surprisingly , Boy George and Willian Reid look better than they have a right to..
Chrissie Hynde , YIKES !!!!! Toni Basil probably has almost 10 years on Hynde , but , she looks much better , here.
Kate Bush still looks beautiful , though she’s put on a considerable amount of weight. I thought she was Elizabeth Taylor for a moment , but not a MUCH older Elizabeth Taylor.
I was never much of a Siuoxsie fan (I was never much of a fan of a LOT of these people.) , but she knows how to rock it.
I ALWAYS THOUGHT LAURIE ANDERSON LOOKED OLDER THAN SHE WAS , BUT , WAS STILL VERY ATTRACTIVE. Now , she looks about her age , and is still very attractive.
Laurie Anderson shocked me. She looks awesome!
…..most may not agree with me,but I think Genesis belongs on this list….
tough call, but Gabriel made it
Um, that photo of M does not look recent. It looks like a still from the Pop Muzik video.
had trouble finding one
Great list, but you need to change “General Public” to the “English Beat” which the two of them did more for our generation than they did as “General Public”…..Case in point…..they tour today as “the English Beat”, not General Public.
I will update -thanks !
Thanks for continuing to add more bands / artists. Brings back such great memories!!!
He’s another dj band…. “Re-Flex”… (the Politics of…)
where’s simply red?

I just want to say THANK YOU to djrioblog for this extensive collection of photos! What a marvelous thing you’ve done here. It must have been terribly time-consuming. It was very thoughtful and probably a labor of love on your part. It’s great to see all of these artists today. I am reminiscing 🙂 Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!
Thank you !
X should be on this list.

Red Rockers, Love and Rockets!
added love and rockets
That’s Crowded House? Nice Photo.
Question. If I have a More Recent Photo of any
of the bands above, where to send? ;..>>
Also, May I add Mike Oldield and crew. Yes, I know
he did the Exorcist, .. However, he (and gf) were
premier in Fairlight CMI programming. Many bands took
him as an originator. Not saying Vangelis, Bach, wasent…….
Mid-80’s.
( “Family Man” – Hall&oates ) and “Five Miles Out” album, ..etc..
Maybe new blog on ‘history’ of .. 🙂 ?>
You have DeadorAlive What. no Politics of Dancing .. ?
Heh. Just ‘ribbin ya.
Afrain. Great site. Keep. it. Alive.
🙂
.. -JJ
THanks for your reply. I am pretty happy with the photos, but I will try to add the man behind Tubular Bells!
the Cutting Crew?
wow… one hit wonder. Great song!
4 great albums and a new one called “Add to Favourites” on the way in 2014.
Mike Scaccia (pictured with Ministry) died last year. Also, Greg Ham (pictured with Colin Hay) from Men At Work died in April 2012.
And really… Peter Wolf is mentioned for “Lights Out?” Have you never heard of the J. Geils Band?
Are you the New Wave expert? Thanks for your wonderful criticism! Sorry this post disappointed you, gonzO
I did grow up during the 80s. Whether that makes me an expert, I don’t know. However, J. Geils Band aren’t an obscure fly-by-night band. “Centerfold,” “Freeze Frame,” and “Love Stinks” are just some of their more popular tunes. It would’ve made more sense to reference him as the lead singer for J.Geils rather than some really, really, really obscure song. It’s sort of like having a picture of Dennis DeYoung and only mentioning, “Desert Moon,” y’know?
Lights out was a pretty popular club record- it never really played on the radio
It did here in Cincinnati, the local Top 40 station loved it.
Also, “Lights Out” had heavy rotation on NBC’s Friday Night Videos. Y’know, the show that, halfway through one video, would promote upcoming videos and then go to commercial?
OK. This is the last time I am trying to post this. 4th attempt. The Feelies should be included, sorry maybe you don’t know them but they have been a huge influence in many ways. Maybe my posts aren’t being received? Also, Madonna doesn’t belong here.
Madonna has made borderline new wave songs: Burning Up, Gambler, Into the groove, Cosmic Glide
I don’t care, Madonna is POP. Ridic to think she is new wave. Rich and powerful she may be now, back then she was a bit of a joke. Believe me I was there-I am in my late 50s and lived and breathed every decade’s music going back to the late 50s esp with 2 older sibs and both parents being musicians. I still play DJ to myself on my commute to work, narrowing things down by year or early mid or late decade for each decade I listen too or genre. My Classic ipod kills!
Also, you are not acknowledging you don’t know the Feelies-what’s up with that? They’ve been around since the late 70s, did some big soundtrack contributions to Susan Seidelman (Smithereens -’82)and Jonathan Demme (Married to the Mob, Something Wild)films, their album Crazy Rythms from 1980 is in the Rolling Stones best albums of all time, they have a NY Times article (Google) Most Influential Band You’ve Never Heard Of, used to play solely at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, now look for them at The Bell House in Gowanus on occasion. Try their albums Crazy Rythms, The Good Earth, Only Life, Here Before (new). Crazy Rythms IS the soundtrack to the very early 80s in Manhattan, sp East Village bars and clubs, where I spent most of my time.
And even though people are dead, for history’s sake, show their pics! Falco, Benjamin Orr esp.
I don’t see Richard Hell and the Voidoids, and the Bush Tetras (Too Many Creeps). What about 1 hit Monroes (What do All the People Know) from San Diego, early 80s, who were on a Japanese label (no one even know they were US) which failed so you couldn’t even get a copy until recently. Also, there was a singer named just Black, ever heard of him?
Like your list, but the Feelies should be on it or it is not close to complete. I rest my case.
Wow. I would write to congress.
anybody remember king? man, whatta handsome guy, and what about that hair he had! any idea where he is now? wait…maybe i don’t wanna know! keep my memories pristine… ;p
and did i miss seeing the damned on the list?
king is in there
i missed his pic; my bad! guess i never knew his first name was paul (or that he had one!) 😉
doesn’t have the giant hair anymore, but still a friendly, nice-looking guy. 🙂
thanks for this awesome list! a great trip down the streets of my past… 🙂
Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant! Thanks for all your efforts so far. Just wanted to add that the third member of The Thompson Twins, Joe Leeway, is now a hypnotherapist in California. If you want to add his photo to those of Tom and Alana, you can find it here http://www.hypnosis.edu/hypnotherapists/joe-leeway/
wow – thanks
ADDED!
Tuxedo Moon and The Comateens?
love the comateens but can’t find a photo !
You are of course aware that everyone on this list and every band suggested went to school on Sonic Youth and that Kim Gordon is the coolest chick on the planet.
Where Gary Myrick
She talks in stereo??
Where is Patty Smith. She added so much more than Patti Smyth.
new wave ?
It’s Patti Smith and the PSG – they were probably one of THE most
important bands of the New Wave. Saw her at Ole Man River’s in New Orleans back in ’79 – she was fantastic and so was her band, fronted by the beautiful Lenny Kaye, Patty Smythe always sucked and yet people always get the two of these confused. How, I know not – Patti still looks FANTASTIC!
Some more suggestions:
The Blow Monkeys, “Digging Your Scene”
The Violent Femmes, “Blister in the Son”.
Level 42, “Something About You”

added Timbuk 3
HOLY CATS! What a project you put together here! Nicely done, you reminded me of bands I had forgotten about totally! Everyone I listened to in the 80s is here, except my local Twin Cities faves. Wonder if any of these got enough national notice that you’d include them here: the Replacements, the Suburbs, the Wallets, Trip Shakespeare, Soul Asylum, Husker Du?
thanks!
Andy Prieboy, Concrete Blonde, Golden Earring (Twilight Zone), Real Life (Send Me an Angel), Opus (Live is Life) Ocean Blue…..
What – – no Concrete Blonde? Johnette Napolitano at the very least? lol
Please consider adding them (or at least her). And since you’ve included Prince, you might as well include Morris Day and The Time.
Otherwise, great job on compiling this visual list, djrioblog! 🙂
Morris day was strictly R&B. That’s what led to Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis’ Janet Jackson productions.
I will add Concrete Blonde
-thanks

Great enjoy looking at all the pix. I liked music of most everyone pictured. Wondering where Siobhan Fahey is? She was original Bananarama and then she formed Shakespear’s Sister in late 80’s…..
added her – thanks looks like she’s djing
Oh my god, the memories! the music! I honestly never thought of these as “New Wave,” I just assumed that they fell under the “alternative” genre. I am bookmarking this page, so that I have a list of all the bands that I loved as a teen. I had forgotten the names of half of them. Age is such a bitch!
Thanks so much for compiling this. It really made my evening 😀
Yeah- I know some of them cross into alternative, but I just kept getting plenty of requests- thanks
Crass
Need more stuff from ‘down under’: The Bats, The Chills, Mental as Anything, Hunters & Collectors. Martha & the Muffins ‘Echo Beach’
Martha & The Muffins were from Toronto. A great bunch of folks too as I got to hang out with them after a show in Syracuse many years ago.
added ! – thanks
Perhaps Crash Vegas? Tragically Hip (borderline “New Wave”)? I have to say, your list is pretty thorough. And popular.
And maybe Ride? Human Sexual Response? Flashcubes? Orangejuice? Camper Van Beethoven (you may have them already)? The Space Negroes? The Neighborhoods (from Boston)? Lou Miami & The Cozmetix? Ah, just brain farting now.
those are some serious farts!
How about Ronny Morrings from Clan of Xymox?
Hello
I’ve tried to post comments to this very cool blog but it keeps saying awaiting moderation – anyway, another try:
Xmal Deutschland (incubus succubus) http://www.anjahuwe.com
No More
Patricia Morrison (gun club, sisters of mercy, damned)
Jello Biafra
Spizz Energi
Adverts …?
…..WOW ! …Thank you so very much for the time & energy put into this amazingly detailed list. As a 21 year old in 1980, and a former DJ, I remember most if not all of these people. Although most “new wave” was not to my taste, I do have a lot of these people’s music. In New Orleans, after Katrina in 2005, all 5000 + of my & my wife’s vinyl albums went in the muck. Am glad to say I saved every last one of them, & even my signed by all band member copy of U2’s first hit single ‘ I Will Follow’ ! Glad it was on higher ground, and again, thanks for the stroll down memory lane! Keep up the great work!
The Smithereens, They Might Be Giants
new wave ?
The Smithereens should definitely be added. Thanks.
The Adventures (from Ireland?), Hoodoo Gurus (Australia), They Might be Giants, Dire Straits. Hunters & Collectors? Loved seeing Martha and a Muffin. 🙂
Teardrop Explodes – Passionate Friend etc
Such a great compilation you did guys…regards from Chile!!. Any chance to do a similar list for pop artists / hair metal bands from the 80’s??
He is a few more …
Youv’e go “the Jesus and Mary Chain”
How about
“the Stone Roses” ? “Cowboy Junkies” ?
or perhaps
“Pavement” or “Circle Jerks”
Dare I mention “the Flaming Lips”
Still the BEST Site!
Keep it going!!
🙂
Also need an RIP for Greg Ham, the Men at Work flute and sax player. 😦 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greg_Ham
How’d they raise Nina Hagen from the dead?
And Lena Lovitch… starters of the Zombie Apocalypse
Divine?
RiP
Oh I know RIP Divine. I saw s/he in concert in 1987 and it was brilliant! Still deserves a nod, you think?
Awesome post, djrioblog!
How about the following:
Fiction Factory for “(Feels Like) Heaven”
Cetu Javu for “Have in mind” & “Situation”
Industry for “State of the nation”
Musical Youth for “Pass the Dutchie”
Red Flag for “Russian radio”
Q Lazzarus for “Goodbye Horses” [featured in “The Silence of the Lambs”]
will consider
Hugh Cornwell/the Stranglers? They looked pretty rough even back in the 80s

FANTASTIC page! Although I have to say, the photo of the Go-Go’s is a bit unfair to the other artists who don’t currently look so great. That pic is rather old…13 years, at least. Jane Wiedlin was sporting the green hair back in 2001, I think. In 2012, I saw Belinda Carlisle and Kathy Valentine at the Yoga Center that I attend. They don’t look like this anymore, especially Belinda.
On another note, have you thought about including Lydia Lunch?
They still look great as an ensemble ! (for an 80’s band)
How long did it take you to make the first list? And all the adds?
This page took me back to the days when I’d need 4-6 hours for make-up & hair before I’d go out to bring away the garbage. ;D
CHAPEAU & MERCI !!!
took plenty of revisions as a result of many comments
What about Joe King Carasco & The Crowns? Remember them?
You did really well with this, (And too I so dearly love Dead Can Dance)
A few come to mind–Jane’s Addiction, Fugazi, Screamin’ Blue Messiahs, Toy Dolls, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Flag, Henry Rollins, Cocteau Twins (there may be photos from the 2005 coachella performance and almost reunion period), Modern English, It’s Immaterial, House of Love, The Sundays, Gang of Four, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Red Lorry Yello Lorry, Cracker, Camper Van Beethoven, Yaz, The Crammps, Marshall Crenshaw, Nine Inch Nails, Tom Waits, The Pogues, REM, UB40, The Cult…sorry if some of these were there
I guess some of them are founded late enough in the 80s they are really considered 90s or what they call alternative.
May I just say too…RIP Polly Stryrene (Xray Spex)
what about Fashion? Or any member of the band?
Also, if you list 242 and Ministry, then ya gotta add KMFDM…
Will look into it
-thanks
Colin Hay (Men At Work) sadly died several years ago.
oh well, he did look great …
Colin Hay is not dead. He put out a new album 3 years ago and is currently touring down under. He’ll be in NYC in May.
I know that the other Men At Work member in that photo perished.
-thanks

Bad link. Sorry.

Wow Morten Harket in a-ha looks fantastic! Scandinavians do look and age better than the rest of us. Is it the air, water or all the fish they eat?
What about Graham Parker?
nice work! this page makes me so happy.
; )
Me, too! I’ve spent about an hour and half so far… I didn’t see Captain Sensible.
say wot????
Of course you post the worst pic of Madonna!!
Get over it ! She’s OLD ! Thank you .
bahahahahahah 🙂
What a great update!
Thanks!
If you have one with Will Sargent and Ian McCulloch to represent Echo and the Bunnymen versus just Ian that would be great!
Teenage HEAD, RIP Frankie Venom!
Echo And The Bunnymen?
Peter Murphy, Kajagoogoo and Bananarama looks pretty good, stiil all the others are fantastic looking, bless the 80’s
♡♡♡ this!! However, your Timbuck 3 photo is incorrect .Timbuck 3 was pAt mAcdonald and his ex-wife Barbara. Your pic is his current band Purgatory Hill, with Melaniejane. Great people, great band! And I’m lucky enough to have them as neighbors 🙂
I was moving at a frantic pace; at least we got one of the two – thanks
Hmmmmm..how could you forget Simon Gallup from The Cure ???????
Besides being one of the best bass players in the world, the man looks AT LEAST 10 years younger than his age (soon 54, June 1)
Just wondering 😉
David J (from Bauhaus, still making music) is aging very gracefully. http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTQH8BAMnAjHvdVYLWZB9_5CgZnS9iTqGU707O3hUn3iw61lcxn
I was wondering about Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds, remember “Crawling from the Wreckage” and “Cruel to be Kind” I love those songs. Can you please, please add?
new wave ?
I’m so very very grateful to you for this list. Warms my heart – like seeing old friends. Please include Claire Grogan of Altered Images, “Don’t Talk to Me About Love.” She’s aged very gracefully.
added!
I just noticed, thank you! My apologies for the late response. And once again, my gratitude. It really is like seeing old friends.

🙂 i was waiting for dead can dance, and you left the best for the end 🙂 they aged splendidly 🙂
my fave !!!
what about the rest of the undertones sounding as good as ever
WOW!! Amazing list!! Brought back some great memories. Some of them have aged gracefully… some… yikes! (Pete Burns… holy wow) I gotta do some downloading this weekend. 🙂
Thanks for continuing to add to the list – Fields of the Nephilim. And yes, The Spoons, and The Damned.
thnks !
Good heavens… Images in Vogue, too. Some of the boys are still making music these days, like Dale (and you already have Kevin Crompton up in the Skinny Puppy pic – I like that cropping, LOL) And, an even newer photo of Al Jourgensen (Ministry) for the records… http://lifeofcharles.com/tag/al-jourgensen/ (scroll down)
Thanks to you efforts and some of the other suggestions I’ve got a massive list of memories to get working on. Cheers!!
Where’s Todd Rundgren? Boy George looks fab- saw him at a Todd show in the 90’s, and he had the most lovely skin I have ever seen on a human being!
Todd Rundgren is Rock/blues. I like Boy George scruffy.
Thanks for too much info (TMI)
Great compilation! It’s your list, and that’s why it’s a good one. Too bad so many people are critics – lol
thank you- I just had weirdo comment on Boy George’s skin
You forgot Pat Benetar and her husband Neil Girardo Hit me with your best shot! 🙂

added !
Thanks for the pictures of Nik Kershaw, Howard Jones, Pseudo Echo…..I have to say that for me Peter Cox and Richard Drummie of Go West have definitely aged the best…..both still gorgeous at 58 and 55 respectively!
what about B-movie , Iggy Pop, Comsat Angels, the Chameleons u.k. , the crows, cactus world news.
can’t find a group photo of B-movir; added Iggy
Platinum Blonde’s Sergio Galli who’s 53 and still looks great without any plastic surgery or miracles.
Here’s a photo I took a couple of years ago with Nick Beggs (Kajagoogoo bassist) centre and Frosty Beedle (Cutting Crew drummer) right. Feel free to crop and use it. Frosty is still with Lifesigns, and is also the regular drummer in the Mamma Mia show in London. Nick has moved on, and is currently working with Steve Hackett (ex Genesis guitarist). https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1441654796056026&l=6d9f357baf
added Nick Beggs
Gary Myrick is still rocking it, and looks fab.
Hi there. How about Toyah? She’s still out there playing live.
Catherine Ringer (Les Rita Mitsouko) definitely deserves a place on this list.
added!
I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was curious what all is needed to get set up?
I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny?
I’m not very internet savvy so I’m not 100% sure.
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Appreciate it
it actually doesn’t cost much at all. Go to wordpress.com, pick a theme, and if you want, you can register the domain name there. Happy blogging!
Beautiful, good job! -Couldn’t read all the comments without melting my brain, but whilst the list now seems pretty darn complete, You did misspell Nick Laird-Clowes from The Dream Academy.
how about THE WILD SWANS, THE CARE, UNDERWORLD, THE MIGHTY LEMON DROP, KANE GANG, BOLSHOI, WIRE TRAIN, JOHNY HATES JAZZ, CAMOUFLAGE, ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN, FIGURES ON A BEACH, EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL, HUMAN LEAGUE, INDUSTRY, FRA LIPPO LIPPI, GAZEBO, KON-KAN, KRAFTWERK, KATRIAN AND THE WAVES, MODERN ENGLISH, THE CARS, SEONA DANCING, SINEAD O CONNOR, TANIKA TIKARAM, THE CALL, HOUSEMARTINS, THE GODFATHERS, THE ADVENTURES, THE BIBLE, THE BLUE NILE, THE LOTUS EATERS, THE RAILWAY CHILDREN, VITAMIN Z, YAZOO, ERASURE, TWO MINDS CRACK, TRANSVSISION VAMP, VOICE OF THE BEEHIVE, THE VAPORS, SOUPDRAGONS, BREAKFAST CLUB and etc.

blue rondo a la turk…..
whoah this weblog is great i like reading your articles.
Stay up the good work! You realize, a lot of individuals are searching around for this information,
you could help them greatly.
thank you so much !
I LOVE this, I knew and have music from every artist here! I didn’t recognize everyone right away, maybe 60% before I looked at the caption, I didn’t keep track. I promise I won’t criticize Madonna or Pat Benatar being there because they were just as much as part of my music collection as Japan and Gary Numan. In my New Wave mp3 folders I have Mike + the Mechanics and Johnny Hates Jazz in with them all. People commenting above are getting a bit too picky, don’t mind them.
Okay additions, pretty sure I didn’t see (trying not to duplicate suggestions above) –
Re-Flex,
Holly & the Italians (Holly Beth Vincent))
Toto Colelo,
Rubber Rodeo,
Haysi Fantayzee,

Okay I have more likely but that’s long enough of a list for now, thanks again for your effort, you seem like you also enjoy cataloging or being an archivist as well! ~David~
lot of one hit wonders here I’ll see what I can do
You’ve created an amazing compilation and, unlike most of your visitors, I decline to add suggestions to supplement your gallery. I do insist that your viewers try to take a look in the mirror; I was smoking hot in the 80s. I very much resemble the once-hot looking stars you’ve posted. I don’t feel so bad now that I see I’m sharing the ravages of time with my idols, Thanks for the trip, djrioblog!
Thank you for a very sensible reply !
thank you for all the great memories…there is a time and a place for everything. Most of the bands here were such a big part of those wonderful years.
Thank you ! It is a post filled with a lot of grey hairs…
Thanks in support of sharing such a pleasant thinking, piece of writing is pleasant, thats why i have read
it fully
Hey man…. Great compilation!!!! Can we include Peter Godwin of Images Of Heaven fame? Still looks smashing!
Yes . For got about him.

Oh my goodness! Impressive article dude! Thank you,
However I am encountering troubles with your RSS.
I don’t understand the reason why I can’t subscribe to it.
Is there anyone else having identical RSS
problems? Anyone who knows the answer can you kindly respond?
Thanx!!
