There is some moral fascination with movies about junkies. Whether some of us have been there or done that, or just watch a friend or family member degrade themselves into narcotic oblivion, movies like Trainspotting, Requiem For A Dream, Leaving Las Vegas, The Basketball Diaries, and Less Than Zero have become top shelf classics in many home movie libraries. But in that depressing lineup, you will have a hard time trying to figure out whether to file the film Trainspotting under drama or comedy; mainly because the dark British comedy does separates itself from the rest of the pack as it mingles with both the tragedy of drug addiction and the science of situational comedy hysterics.
Yes, they actually made a comedy out of heroin. Hard to imagine, but you will never stop laughing at the level of humor tacked together by British filmmaker Danny Boyle (yes, the same Danny Boyle that gave us Slum Dog Millionaire) adapted from Irvine Welsh’s book that explores the surrealistic encounters and the manic sociopathic behavior of village youth gone mad on smack.
So, Ewan McGregor has finally dropped that lightsaber as Obi Wan to reunite with the rest of the cast to begin shooting the sequel: Trainspotting 2 or T2 as the teaser points out.
If you have never seen Trainspotting, I think you owe it to yourself to get in touch with the lighter side of being strung out on the smack. I will say that it is no Cheech and Chong bonged-out adventure, but be prepared for the darkness that awaits, as you will laugh at the face of death, while blue in the face.
I know it looks like a fan made trailer, so I thought I’d clear the hoax theories with an official photo from the set:
