I guess naming that tune just doesn’t cut it these days. To a well educated DJ, producer, or any experienced ear, dissecting the samples contained within a finished product covertly lies within the coffers of ram chips inside those samplers by the likes of Daft Punk, Kanye West, and other electronic artists, but now, the makers of a free app called WhoSampled (FREE), allow you to examine the sampled innards of those popularly produced tracks by essentially blowing up their spot. Just search the song you seek to root out from their ginormous library, and the app then lists all the sampled components from the originals that make up the track. With the press of a button, you will be directed to the original song to hear in its un-sampled entirety via YouTube. A direct connect to the source, of course… I am pretty fucking sure you’ll be seeing quite a bit of James Brown.
