I will come clean. ’95 was the end of hip-hop for me, but I will give honorable mentions to Lupe, Kanye and of course The Roots. Forgive me if I left you out, but it’s all about the vibe. A Tribe Called Qwest will always be one of my favorite rap groups of all time, and they have a new doc directed by Micheal Rapaport that just made its debut at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Sony picked it up and I hope they don’t F**K it up like everything else they sink their teeth into.
The film is basically a 2 year journey following the group around the world, filled with live performances and a dash of drama that is trademark reality TV. But, most importantly it features the culmination and beginnings of one of the greatest groups of all time (THERE- I said it AGAIN!!!) The the affirmations range from other notable figures in hip-hop that include De La Soul, Jungle Brothers, Monie Love and more. Yes… the Native Tongue crew is alive and well. You can catch a glimpse here. (note: the bad audio sync might be Sony….)
