It is one feat to remix a song, but to actually re-create the production based on sample clearance information is just shy of remarkable. Enter Jim Pavloff.
Prodigy’s Smack My Bitch Up is one of my all time favorite classic techno tracks. In this video, Mr. Pavloff strips down each part and basically exploits the entire production via a program called Ableton Live. If you’ve never heard the song, hear it first, and when you witness the step by step breakdown in this video, it will open your eyes up to the intricacies in the art of sampling production, in which the profit-fueled business of sample-clearance drained many DJ/Producers dry by extracting huge royalty percentages from their bits and snippets of sounds that became recognized as dance floor classics.
Enjoy it!
